Wiiware/Virtual Console Update - 6/30

June 30, 2008 by Beebles · Leave a Comment

Not too big of a day today for the Wiiware/Virtual Console section. The one Wiiware game to be released today is Magnetica Twist. It’s just a remake of Magnetica which is already a remake of another game called Puzz Loop. Either way it’s an enjoyable action puzzle game that worked extremely well with the DS controls a couple years ago, so it’s expected to work well with Wii controls also. There also is going to be one virtual console game out today called Fatal Fury 2. I’d say there are better fighting games out there for the Wii, but if you’re into that stuff then it’s probably worth checking out. Below is the press release for any one who would like to see it.

June 28, 2008 by Beebles · 1 Comment

This is day two of the predictions! Each game will be given a percentage based off of much information so an educated prediction can be made (Although nothing is ever fully predictable with Nintendo). We’ll make sure to cover the chances of all the major franchises like Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Animal Crossing and so on…..and maybe even certain games like Kid Icarus will be covered. Feel free to leave comments stating your own predictions as well! (You can do this by clicking on the title of the blog)

The Kirby Series: Wii- 80% DS- 99%

Woah…Kirby gets high ratings for both systems?  This year sounds like it is shaping up nicely for Kirby fans! “Kirby Super Star Ultra” has already been confirmed by Nintendo for a summer release on the Nintendo DS. There’s almost no doubt that there will be mention of this Kirby Super Star remake, or even a trailer/demo sometime during the show. As for Kirby on the Wii, a lot less information has been given out. Back in 2005 there was a trailer for a Kirby game on the Gamecube. This obviously never made it on the Gamecube, although it’s been pretty much confirmed that the exact same project has been moved to the Wii (you can see the old trailer on youtube below). A big reason Kirby may appear this year is because Nintendo of Japan’s recent financial results statement noted a forecast of this game being released in Japan this 2008 along with another highly anticipated franchise (we’ll get to that one another day). Also, Nintendo has really locked in this “family gaming” thing over 2007, and you can’t deny that Kirby is one of the most family friendly Nintendo characters. One way or another (or both ways), you can expect to see the little pink ball at E3 this year.

A Look Back at the Greatest DS Puzzlers - Day Two

Tetris DS sure isn’t known for its unique use of the DS or amazing new gameplay formula. It’s really just our old friend Tetris, with a ton of added bonuses that are truly welcomed.  THQ was actually going to be the main developer of this game, but they ended up canceling it and, to our surprise, Nintendo took over instead. Nintendo made this game everything it needed to be, starting by keeping the true heart of the gameplay and building from there. They didn’t decide to ruin the game with touch-only gameplay, but the still incorporated the touch screen and duel screen where appropriate by throwing in many extra fun modes that work extremely well. Additionally, the old school theme is a nice touch and gives the game its own feel. Nintendo even offered some of the best multiplayer and online play they have offered on the DS.  You can even get up to ten players in certain modes, and all the crazy items just add to the fun.  Beware if you have been thinking of purchasing it because the price of  Tetris DS these days has almost doubled since it first came out! You can consider yourself an extremely lucky person to find it at a store for 29.99.

The Wiispace Nintendo E3 Predictions - Day One

June 26, 2008 by Beebles · Leave a Comment

As we countdown to E3, it should be amusing to take a look at what chances each Nintendo franchise has of appearing at the show. This part of the blog will be updated multiple times a week, as there are multiple franchises to be covered before E3 starts.

We’ll start things off with the Starfox franchise.

The Starfox Series: Wii- 65% DS- 5%

Many would agree that the Starfox series has a full chance of appearing on the Wii in the future, but the question is if it will be announced this year or not. A couple of big names in the Nintendo industry have already mentioned the idea of Starfox appearing on the Wii, although nothing has ever been officially confirmed. The series designer, Takaya Imamura, had mentioned a while back that he has been having some ideas for a sequel specifically for the Wii. Along with the fact that Starfox Command has already been released for the DS, this statement from Imamura further lowers the chances of Starfox appearing on the DS. Shigeru Miyamoto has also mentioned that he would really like to see the Arwing controlled with the Wii remote. Additionally, the director of public relations at Nintendo has recently announced that Nintendo will be showing off several new games at this year’s E3 that will greatly interest core gamers. The Starfox series is very much a part of this “core gamer” category, so this will higher the chances a little more. It may not be the most probable Nintendo franchise to show up at E3 this year, but it certainly has a reasonable chance.

Safecracker Announced for the Wii

June 24, 2008 by Beebles · Leave a Comment

Do you remember the PC game called “Safecracker: The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure”? Well, it’s been officially announced today that the game is being remade for the Wii. It could very well end up to be more Wii shovelware, but it also has a lot of potential to be brought back better than ever. No info has been released about what new features may be brought to the Wii version yet, except for the evident use of the Wii remote. For those who have never heard of Safecracker before, here is the official description of this first person adventure game.

“As an expert safecracker, you are hired by the wealthy family of a recently deceased billionaire to search for the last will and testament of their late relative, Duncan W. Adams. An avid safe collector and an “eccentric” to say the least, Adams has hidden the deed to his riches in one of the 35 safes scattered in his extravagant mansion.”

So yeah, hey, Nintendo…. Now that we can crack safes using our Wiimotes, maybe we could move on to that first person lightsaber game…just maybe? What’s that you say? No? Okay okay, sorry I won’t ask again.
