The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Spoiler-Free Review Written By SuperQ

When you walk into your local game store, you stroll by the Nintendo DS section. You look across them quickly, not really wanting any of them. Then, your eyes rest on “The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass”. You remember seeing this online somewhere… That’s right! You saw a review on it once! In fact, you have a copy of it in your pocket, somehow. Maybe a hobo planted it on you. Or SuperQ. Well, you might as well lean against the wall outside and read it.

Ok, since this is a spoiler-free review, I will NOT say anything concerning the plot. The length, in short form, is LONG. Longer than Longcat. You have to go through a handful of dungeons, collecting numerous gadgets and various plot devices, only to find out that you must collect another set of objects. Finally, there is the extra Battle Mode. I personally think this is better than the Adventure Mode. Especially if you have a friend with a DS, or Wi-Fi. The gameplay is epic as well. You use the stylus for just about everything. Walk, roll, grapple, and blast your way through the game by just using the stylus. If you’re a long-time Zelda gamer who is worried about it’s traditional style, don’t worry; the stylus doesn’t get in the way of that. In fact, sometimes, I forgot I was using it! If you are a fan of Wind Waker, you’re also in for a treat; characters from the original return, as well as some new ones. Sadly, the King of Red Lions doesn’t return; instead, you get a customizable boat, along with a not-so-nice captain. It’s not too bad, especially water voyages; it’s pretty speedy, and you get to use a cannon to shoot the snot out of foes. Now onto the negative part of the review: the dungeons can be little repetitive, especially the Temple of the Ocean King. You have to go through that multiple times, and you are timed to do it, which is a little difficult at some times. But all in all, that’s it. There is so much more I can go into, but I will leave with this last phrase: Buy it. If not, your DS will hate you.

Final Score: 95%

New Review; Old Game

Game Review: Kirby Super Star Ultra

Written By SuperQ

Lately, it seems the Kirby series has been growing stale.  Why?  Well, it may just be me, but it’s getting repetitive.  I mean, this game adds many new elements not seen in years back to the series, but not enough to warrant a new age in Kirby.

The cartridge comes packed with about a dozen different games, including games where you get to play as Meta Knight, and helpers, which are enemies turned friend.  But, playing as either seems limited, as you can’t steal powers, which give the series it’s most flavor when purchasing a new game.  Also, the gameplay feels a little choppy; you don’t spend the whole time playing one game, which can make a gamer who likes stories feel sort of strange after finishing after one hour.

The multiplayer can be lacking as well; unless you have another friend with this game, both of you are expected to look off the same game screen, which can be difficult, considering how small the screens are, plus, if you are playing on the original DS, you might as well not bother.  But, minigames can be played on multiple screens, which is a relief.  There are a few different minigames, which is cool for when you have friends over.

All-in-all, I say this game would be a rental; it warrants enough gameplay for about a week, and its replay value isn’t enough to play it over and over again.  I give this game a 6/10.
