Did Nintendo Lose E3?
June 2, 2009 by Quinten Vaughan · Leave a Comment
Every single community you go to on the internet, it’s almost unanimous that Nintendo lost E3, and Microsoft won. Well, looking past the fact that there really is no prize for this, did Nintendo really do that badly?
Here’s a checklist of wants the average Nintendo gamer wanted out of E3:
New Zelda- If you count out the fact you get an entire 3D Zelda on the DS coming this year, no.
New Mario- Yes. In fact, you got four, two if you only count more traditional games.
New Starfox- No.
New Kid Icarus-No, but this is possibly one of the most rumored games out there.
Zelda Spirit Tracks Info- Yes, we got a brief glmipse at it.
Pikmin 3- No.
2D Metroid- This has been wanted for a while. While we didn’t get one, we did get a third person Metroid, and that’s almost as good.
Plus, add in the fact that Red Steel 2 was shown, Kingdom Hearts, Golden Sun DS, Dead Space Extraction, and The Conduit, why do people say Nintendo lost? Because they didn’t unveil a new, motion sensing controller? Oh, wait. Nintendo did that years ago. Was it because they didn’t show off enexpected new games? Well, I think Metroid: Other M does a nice job of showing that off.
No. Because it didn’t do anything innovative for its system this year. But it didn’t need to. It already had motion controls. It already had Wii MotionPlus. What else could it add? A camera? Ubisoft’s doing that for one of their games, so you can’t use that excuse. Wii had motion controls before both of them. After seeing Nintendo’s success, Sony and Microsoft wanted a piece of the pie, and started making their own versions of Nintendo’s hardware, to make it look appealing to their loyal gamers. Nintendo did motion controls first.
Was it because it didn’t have super-bloody, mature, shooting games that most people enjoy playing. Nintendo did an excellent job balancing out core and causual games this year, announcing several core games we didn’t even know about, and showing off some casual games that actually looked interesting to try out. Dead Space: Extraction had to be the closest to a ‘Sonysoft hardcore’ game there, and it’s part of the Dead Space franchise, which is already popular.
Knowing all this, why did it lose? I see nothing wrong. It did better than last year. Heck, it did better than the last two years, comparing the amount of games announced. Not everything has to be photo-realistic, mature games to be fun.

RUMOR: Pictures of Sin & Punishment 2, Super Mario Bros. Wii?
June 2, 2009 by Quinten Vaughan · Leave a Comment
GoNintendo found a NeoGaf thread, of some snapshots of Nintendo’s booth at E3. And what they found was shocking. Well, actually, first of all, something less exciting. Sin & Punishment 2 is being shown at E3’s booth, as you can see here:

Next up, we have about two pictures to show you. Look at the silhouettes in the tarps. Look familiar?

Now, take a look at that second one. A hard look. You can easily see Super, than half of the R, then the I, then the O… Then Bros. Is that… Wii at the end? Let’s see…

Mark and I will be letting you know of everything and anything in the coming hours.
