Halo Waypoint Gets A Bit More Detailed

July 27, 2009 by Mark Barley Editor in Chief · 1 Comment

Halo

Frank O’Connor, of 343 Industries, was on hand this past weekend at Comic-Con and spoke about the Xbox 360’s latest Halo venture, Halo Waypoint.

Halo Waypoint will be an accessible Xbox 360 Dashboard channel featuring news, videos, screens, wallpapers, etc.  available for download.  All about the Halo universe.

“There’s a lot more to Waypoint than just watching movies and listening to podcasts,” he said. “Maybe you just want to see a really old Halo trailer from E3. We’re going to aggregate everything that you would want to watch from the Halo universe on that site. But it’s a lot more ambitious than that. It’s going to evolve in features and functionality to make it the prime destination for the Halo fan.

“You’ll be able to see [Legends] episodes in their entirety via Waypoint in a staggered schedule. Those events will be global—it will be in every Xbox territory—and we’ll make those things sort of ‘come participate’ events.”

When asked about a release date, O’Connor reiterated that it is scheduled for a fall release.  He was also asked about pricing for this new channel and whether or not Silver XBL member’s would be able to access the channel.

“Certainly, if you’re a Gold member you’re going to get access to all of that experience,” he said. “We want everyone to have this same experience, but the question is, if there’s multiplayer features that are technically connected to Gold, it’s easier to deal with. There’s a lot of reasons that [tying it to] Gold makes sense.”

Microsoft sure does love their Halo!

Halo Waypoint

Halo

Halo Waypoint has been announced by Microsoft, it will be a place on Xbox Live where Halo fans can go, expected to launch sometime this fall.

Think of it as a Halo channel that will provide Halo fans with the latest Halo news and activities; it will also contain Halo podcasts, screens, trailers, and other video footage.

According to the PR:

“provide a new challenge for Halo gamers with a career system and player rankings tied to both in-game and out-of-game accomplishments related to Halo.”

It figures that Halo would get it’s own channel on Xbox Live, I mean, afterall…it is Microsoft’s baby.
