Is this worth it?
Ok, I'm on hp.com and configuring a computer for my purchase, I'm going to show the specs that I'm going to get and I plan to have the level of graphics, for example, on medium for like a game for halo 2 for vista.
K here it is: Vista Home Premium Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor E4500 2GB DDR2-667MHz dual channel SDRAM (2x1024) 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT DVI-I, HDMI 250GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive LightScribe 16X max. DVD+/-R/RW SuperMulti drive I would go higher on the ram but it only has enough space for 2gb. Tell me if this matters very much. The whole deal comes to $700 so thats why I'm asking if it's worth it because it seems kind of cheap for a gaming pc.

very annoying...you did not have to make a hole new thread...you should have posted this in the other thread...i will close the other one.
sorry I am aussie so i cant tell you if the price is right and dont worry about more then 2gb of ram as i think right now its pointless to have more. but again..i am not running vista. and i am no expert but the processer is quite weak (its weaker then my year old pc) but you are getting a high end graphics card...maby downgrade the gfx card and get a better 2 duo processor.... what do the people in shops say? you should go out and get quotes from several stores of that set up and also what they recommend for gaming.

Well you have a few things out of place there. The processor isn't very good, at least compared to the core 2 6550 (yes, its better than the 6600) And the video card is really not very powerful at all, the 8500 is an entry level dx10 card.
Go to newegg if you want good prices, HP has pretty bad margins on their products, and they'll probably send you vista. Here's a better build for ya... Core 2 6550 $170 DG33TLM motherboard $96 2gb ddr2667 $70 nvidia 8600 gts (check the nvidia website if you don't think its that much better than the 8500, it is) $140 160gb sata 2 hard drive $50 dvd burner $25 generic case/power supply $50 add $100 for an OEM copy of windows xp, and you have yourself a brand spankin new gaming machine, legal, for the same price as that HP. true you don't get a monitor keyboard or mouse with it, but i can safely say you'll out perform it. |
