i would like a ranking system myself....just to see where i am with all the other people
but like u guys said...sakurai doesnt want people to be like..."OH MAN IM SOO GOOD AT SMASH....im probably like NUMBER 5!!!!" until they find themself number 5....thousand.....twenty-two but i agree the psychology thing is just stupid....and he also said that the wii wouldnt allow voice chat....so he couldnt put it in....but i guess he lied about that since Reggie was all for the idea of voice chat....since he clearly stated in an article back a while ago that he would like voice chat and he is always having it on his mind and all this stuff about how he wants voice chat....

Well its peoples fault generally if they are going to be arrogant but at least one knows where one stands, and I don't see people threatening each other as an issue as sakurai might have feared. People just want to have fun and compete and try to get better, and having a ranking will allow for that. At least I recall Sakurai saying that if we do want a ranking system, then we should do it on forums with select players, most of whom, want to just get better and play smash at its true potential.

I voted yes, a ranking system is definitely great. I used to play other games online and used a third party ranking system... works very efficiently and makes competition fun. I'm always looking for good challengers but it's tough to find them when you dont know who's good or not.

Even though it would be mega tits to have a ranking system i think having such a thing goes against nintendo's fun for everyone idea. We all know what happens when u add a ranking systems Late nights, cheaters, poor sports. Plus someone will always be unhappy, cause lets face it someone has to be at the bottom of the list lol.

UGH, whenever I play SSB online, there is this one kid I run into who always camps, and since it's a stock match, he'll just wait for our stock to run down then run in and take us down. Also when we go after him, he's insanely cheap because he spams Kirby moves (back when they were actually deadly) EDIT: Also, in order to be number one, theoretically you'd have to play the most matches and win. It's not like I could win one match, then stop playing so my win ratio is always 100%. If you don't even play the game because you're doing other stuff, you're rank is going to decline, making you seem worse than you really are |

They could just dish out a very small number of ranks to have everyone use. They could go Green<Blue<Red<Copper<Silver<Gold<Platinum. They could use F<E<D<C<B<A<S. They could use something like that that lets you go "Wow, that guys is an S and I am an E, maybe he is good at this" without making people worry too much about trying to be at the very top of the rankings. The only problem I see it posing is when an S guy gets beaten and utterly humiliated by an F. Although I have to say, that would be kind of funny.

I like mega's idea, I know there are ALOT of people on this site and I don't like to see that rubbed in my face every time I come on here.

There are actually only about 15-20 people on this site that play brawl regularly in chatbox, about 40 if you count the people that have it and don't play much, and as much as 50-60 if you count all the people that came, posted once, and then left never to return. So heck, just by playing and losing 3 matches you could get ranked like 25th in the entire forum. Sounds pretty fancy to me.
I'd still prefer letter grades that indicate a player's level of skill. They could even make an SSS grade reserved for Chuck Norris in the off chance that he ever joins this forum.

I disagree with the letter ranking system because I believe that a win loss ratio is much more effective. As Reeg said before that people can camp and cheat, although since this is a relatively small amount of players as compared to everyone in this forum, we could easily just set up a system where it could be like a basketball season. For example each player plays a certain number of matches. People get paired into divisions, and we could have playoffs with the tournament at the end if you want to have regular matches. All other matches that are just played for fun would just be like pickup games, and not count. If not one can always just count the victories from the tournament. The reason I don't like the grading scale is because it doesn't let you know how much you played, and where exactly do those grades come from? You need to know who has more victories compared to losses if you want to know how to be ranked in terms of letters, so it's the same thing but just adding to the win/loss ratio. Also to address the issue of people camping or trying to cheat, we can make it 1v1 matches if one wants to stop the camping in terms of rankings. Cheating will be impossible because there will be scheduled matches depending on the situation, and its not cheating if someone does run and attack, simply because that is a strategy and one should be able to beat it if one is better. So I really don't see any issues with that, and as long as it is thoroughly planned out.. there shouldn't be any problems. Of course we could always have a "beta" ranking system to try it out, with like 2 matches with each player or something like that. But traditional rankings tends to work best, especially cause you can't really cheat in super smash brothers brawl. You can get lucky... but not cheat.
