The Wiispace Nintendo E3 Predictions - Day Three

Posted: July 1, 2008 by Beebles

This is day three of the predictions! Each game will be given a percentage based off of much information so an educated prediction can be made (Although nothing is ever fully predictable with Nintendo).  For any of the more probable predictions, keep in mind that if they are not announced at E3, they will most likely be announced at another gaming conference soon after. We’ll make sure to cover the chances of all the major franchises like Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Animal Crossing and so on…..and maybe even certain games like Kid Icarus will be covered. Feel free to leave comments stating your own predictions as well!

The Zelda Series: Wii- 40%  DS- 1%

Yes, it’s almost a surprising flip of the coin for the Wii, but I’ll just get the obvious reasons for the DS one out of the way. Phantom Hourglass has been released way too recently for the DS to have another “true” Zelda title and there has been no information on a new DS game at all. There’s always that small chance of some small spin off, but we won’t count those. The next true Zelda game is sure to be released on the Wii. In fact, there’s already a new one in development being built from the ground up for the Wii as hinted by different Nintendo staff.  Also note, Miyamoto has mentioned before that a Zelda game typically takes three years to create. Nintendo has so many other games expected this year that it would seem that this just isn’t the year for Zelda, especially with Twilight Princess seeming so recent (but is 2006 really so recent that we can’t have a simple announcement in 2008?). There’s absolutely no reason that Nintendo won’t announce Zelda some time soon though, especially when they have promised this year to have a lot of first party games for core gamers in the near future. Don’t fall under the assumption that it’s just too early for a new Zelda. If Zelda Wii has already been in development for at least year now, then it would be expected for a release at least around 2010. When it comes to “core gaming”, Nintendo has a history of making us drool over any game years before its release. So keep in mind that most Zelda games (and other big names) are announced more than a year before they are released, and Nintendo isn’t going to release a trailer in 2010 and then release the game in the same year. This year you can expect demos and trailers for many first party games, but not Zelda. If you were expecting to see Zelda at E3 this year, you should expect the most tease of a trailer a teaser could be and no more (unless there is the small chance that they’ve been working on some spin off game).
