Wii Review: Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games

Review: Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
Nintendo Wii

For years fans have wanted to see Mario and Sonic in a game together, These two were at one time rivals in the 90's but as Sega went on to making games for all consoles the possibility became more and more likely. Well after the wait here it is, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games. The game is going to get a ton of attention just for the fact that these two have came together but is the game worth a buy?

This Is the first official game for the 2008 Olympic games. So expect a lot of events that you would see at the Olympics such as Swimming,Racing,Gymnastics and Table Tennis so there is a lot of things that keep the game fresh. Another small note is that you can use your "mii" characters in the game. each character has there own stats like someone like Bowser will be slower but more powerful and Mario would be a more balanced character. Most Mario Sports titles are like this so nothing really new. There are several modes like tournament and circuit, Some events like the 4x4 relay allow you to have a four person team for obvious reasons. In mission mode you are given a mission to get by like "Mario must beat sonic" etc. Each character has their own missions.

Not much to say about the graphics, It looks like most Mario games. Colorful stadiums and areas are what makes up the game. I do like how in some places you will see things from both the Mario and Sonic universe. But really overall the graphics aren't good aren't bad I think they are really were they need to be.

The main game play consist of you doing simple motions with the Wii Remote to accomplish your goal. So in other words it's another Wii mini game collection (As if the Wii didn't have enough of those) I have to say though this mini game collection is one of the best for Wii and is a great time if you have some others to play with you. If you don't their are also online leader boards to check how your scores compare to others. I wish they could have done more with he online though.

So after all these years we get a mini game collection, Not a bad one but still with a console filled with them do we really need more? I would of like to see some kind platformer with the two icons. A lot of the characters seem out of place while running and doing whatever sport your playing ( Sonic and Mario racing? come on) I feel the game should have been in development a few months more I mean the Olympics aren't until summer.

I will give Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games a 7.6/10
