1) competitors cannot change there product and/or price to counter it (the 360 price drop rumor).
2) Price could be based on many things such as hardware costs, therefore more time means they can get the best price suitiable
3) Creates massive 'buzz' and gets lots of media attention = effective marketing

i think (hope) the details will be out during the german game convenstion but if its not it wouldnt suprize me
