my only question is will this be a new game or a snes port?
It is a SNES port, it won't have any new content. That's why I am not interested in buying it. They already ported Chrono Trigger the the PS1, and added in some awesome cut scenes to boot. What we are going to get here likely won't have the cut scenes. Many of us already own it on the PS and most of us have already beaten it on an emulator. Porting to the DS is a waste. If other SNES games could be ported to the GBA why do we need a DS card to hold Chrono Trigger?

Putting in the DS also means that it is unlikely Chrono Trigger will be seen on the Virtual Console (actually since Square can re-release most of their best games on a handheld and sell them for $40 + it is unlikely they will release them on the virtual console). If it were a remake similar to what was done with Final Fantasy IV I would consider buying it. IF you want a port seriously just pick up the Playstation port on Ebay for about the same price. It's full screen and comes with those kick-ass cinematics!

Edit: Well now I look stupid. It appears that the DS version will include the cutscenes from the playstation port (this was revealed at E3 2008). Also, it is obviously going to use a dual-screen presentation (likely using the second screen as a map if recent RPG releases are to be considered), along with some touch controls (probably for menus and walking), and a 2-4 player multiplayer wireless mode (which is likely to involve minigames). Finally, they are adding a new dungeon to the game (which could be interesting). After my initial upset at the announcement that this will be a port rather than a remake, I guess now that I even have some interest in the title. Another thing to consider is sound. The speakers on the GBA are far worse than the sound that was produced on the SNES, which owners of the FF IV and FF VI GBA releases probably noticed. The DS can produce CD like sound quality which is a must for Mitsuda's legendary soundtrack.

So maybe this is really going to be worth it after all. If you missed the PS port of the game I recommend the DS version. If you do own the the PS version then decide whether the bonus material is worth dropping $40 on.
