It's not directly Nintendo crapping on the core gamers. Keep in mind that within the last year we saw Mario and Smash Bros, two great games for hardcore gamers. Also remember that they brought us Metroid Prime 3 and Zelda.

Nintendo generally releases a few very kick-ass titles during each console generation, and relies on third parties to supply some other great hardcore games. In this generation the third parties have been weary of the Wii's 'kiddy' design, but are starting to gradually develop interest. Nintendo can't handle the entire load themselves, they need those third parties to bring some hit titles to the platform. If those third parties fail to deliver then it's not entirely Nintendo's fault.

Don't worry though. This generation is far from over and I expect we will see some great first and third party hits before the end of it.Think of the success of these casual games as a great new way for Nintendo to fund new R&D teams for producing more great hardcore games. Casual games are a valuable investment whether you play them or not.
