We’ve put in some serious hours reviewing this game, and after several exhaustive playthroughs both solo and co-op as well as countless bloodthirsty multiplayer rounds, we can announce that Halo 3 is everything that it needed to be to fulfill our wildest gaming fantasies… and then Bungie showed us The Forge.

“The best game yet in one of the best FPS franchises of the era. Better than either of its predecessors, Halo 3 still can’t quite escape the category of flawed masterpiece - but this time around, the flaws are so minor that even the most churlish of reviewers would be hard pressed to mark the game down.”

“Halo 3 is the best Xbox 360 game to date. The single-player campaign and storyline are both very strong, but it’s Forge and the Saved Films features that will likely go down in history as Bungie’s crowning achievements. They’ve basically taken everything great about the series and improved upon it in every way, then added some amazing new features that we’ll be using for years to come.”

“It’s the addition of the Forge level editor and the saved films that give the game an even longer set of legs, legs that will probably keep you running at full speed until Bungie figures out where, exactly, to go from here.”

“Look beyond the gameplay and you have a rich feature set unlike anything ever delivered in a videogame. The Forge and the replay functionality raise the bar for console shooters so high, it may never be surpassed this generation. There will be plenty of aspects for fans to nitpick, but it’s hard to argue against Halo 3 as the most complete game available on any console.”

“Halo 3 takes every positive aspect from the first two Halo games, perfects them, puts them in a shinier and better looking package, tosses in wonderful community-driven content for a console game, establishes some awesome environments, and does it so damn well it’s impossible to not have fun while playing.”

“The story just isn’t put-together well enough, the graphics are disappointing, and the levels have you constantly running back and forth. Yes, if all of these things were rectified, the game would be spectacular. But they’re not.”

"In many ways, Halo 3 can be summed up as a prettier version of the Halo that you know and love. There are some new weapons, new vehicles, new items, new environments, and new enemies, but the gameplay itself is very much the same; it's an evolutionary change rather than revolutionary one. "

"The original Halo pushed the first-person shooter genre forward with its new game mechanics, impressive visuals and distinctive style. Those generic boundaries are once again redefined in Halo 3."

"I wasn't exactly thrilled when I heard that the only way I could play Halo 3 in time to meet my various deadlines was by flying out to Seattle and spending two days at Bungie's Kirland studio. It wasn't that I didn't want to play Halo 3, or that I didn't watch to check out Bungie, I just didn't want to spend a big chunk of the week doing it".

"The third and final installment in the trilogy — but not the “Halo” game series, since there’s more games set in the universe to come — starts with the Master Chief being discovered/rescued by the Marines after having jumped to the surface of a planet (the shock being absorbed by the gel layer of his suit, but the impact incapacitating our hero)."
While I am one of the Many who didn't like, scratch that who down right despised the horrible outing that was HALO 2, I do find Halo 3 a slightly better game then it's predecessor. The new Forge mode is slowly entertaining me more and more and quickly becoming the reason I even still play the game. it's not that I don't think Halo is a good series it's just for as great of a series HALO is supposed to be, it falls short of expectations evetrytime. The last two outings have been nothing to write home about, the Ending in all three leave alot to be desired (But in this one watch AFTER the credits for a surprise). The story line in 3 is slow moving to close plot holes that were left open in the last two games. All to make the story Seem "Completed" near the last two chapters where it feels like the Developers were so anxious to finish the story and game that they just rushed it all together into a hodge podge of story lines. The game is a little too short in the single player campaign as it took me 4 hours and 17 minutes to beat it on easy mode, 5 hours and 1 minute on heroic mode and 5 hours and 42 minutes on Legendary mode. I can only imagine these times shortening once a 4 player co-cop is played on any of these modes.
