Japan's Wii game sales do not match up
Japan's Wii game sales do not match up
Japan. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the name of this country? That's right, video games. Japan is a video-game-loving country, so you would expect Japan to have sold a lot of Wii games, right? Think again. As of New Year's Eve (Dec. 31, 2007), worldwide Wii console sales had reached an amazing 20.13 million units. Wii game sales had reached approximatly 113 million units. The "attach rate" of a console is the average number of games sold per console. Worldwide, the attach rate for Wii is about 5.6 games per console, which is good. In the United States, the figure is a bit higher at 6.9 games per console. Now to the strange part. Even though over 5 million Wii consoles have already been sold in Japan, only 16.8 million games have been bought, leaving Japan with the surprisingly low attach rate of only 3.4. This means that on average, each Wii owner in Japan has only 3-4 games. This is made even smaller by the fact that Wii Sports is not even bundled with the console in Japan.
