yah its based on lap time so if you ever want the 150 or mirror 3 stars u basically need a huge lead and hope a blue shell never comes.

and yes there is a award for every mode
if you get at least 1 star ranking in all bottom cups on 1 mode u either unlock a character or kart/bike and the same for completing the top cups with a star ranking.

and also if you get star rankings in every single cup it shows up during online where people sees it as a star or 2 stars or 3 depending if you got 2 stars in every cup and mode or 3

Didnt think it could be done... but i got a star rating with a silver cup. crazy eh?

Does this mean that the computer happen to get a awsome time... and beat me at the last moment? Item luck is a must for star ratings? I really am confused... lol wish there was a formula to expalin..

it all depends on how many hits you recieve, how many hits you deliver and how fast you complete the courses.

POW blocks can be avoided in 2 ways
1. be in the air when one goes off
2. lift the wii remote on the 3rd beat once the POW block appears.(or just SHAKE the wii remote frantically)

i have managed to get a straight two star ranking as this method helps to keep you at the front.
