Tecmo Bowl
Since its two weeks away from the super bowl, i have decided to review one of the most classic football games ever crapped out for a console. ![]() Ah, Tecmo Bowl. Growing up, I used to play tecmo bowl a LOT. Compared to its successor, Tecmo Super Bowl, this game is a garbage. But since its not on the VC yet, i have decided to review this classic. Gameplay: ![]() the mechanics in this game are simple. you pick your play by matching the d-pad and A B (1 2) correspondents. on defense, its the exact same thing...which is kinda dumb. there are no defensive schemes in this game. the way it worked, is that in tecmo bowl, there are only 4 plays to choose from...if you picked the exact same play as the offense, the defense would bumrush the offense and it would usually result in a loss of yards immediately. so pretty much, its all luck on defense. passing in this game was relatively easy as well. you snap the ball with 2, and you select your receivers with 1. you hit 2 again to pass to your receiver. pretty simple and user friendly. ![]() of course, its NES, so its gonna have some flaws with it. my first BIG BIG complaint is this. you can actually throw a 120 yard touchdown bomb. im not even kidding. you can actually back up all the way into your own endzone, and lob it to your receiver on a streak, and if hes open, touch down. 120 yard pass IN THE AIR! you can spam this play over and over and just destroy your opponent. my second beef is this...if you hit your receiver on a 20 yard pass, and theres NO one in front of him, everyones behind him...you would think you would score. nope, you never score. at all. unless you break a tackle, you will never score. somehow, the defensive line can run about 20 yards per second to fetch you and ruin your dreams of a big play touchdown. im not gonna hate to hard because its NES, but cmon now. the last thing i have a problem with is the HALFTIME SHOW!!! ![]() no no no nintendo!! you have it all wrong! no pixelated cheerleaders!! get some smokin hot babes!! ![]() now, if nintendo wouldve been able to put actual pictures like this at every halftime show, then i would actually watch the stupid thing. hopefully they come across this and take notes. also, one last thing i have a problem with. in order to advance in your season to the playoffs...you MUST go undefeated. wtf?! you have to be the 72 dolphins just to go to the super bowl?!? (not sayin pats for a reason..cuz they aint done it yet ) Even with all its flaws, this game is still fun and easy to pick up and enjoy. Sound: haha, i actually like the sound on this game. its nothing but music during the plays. and its kinda catchy as well. the playoff music is also INTENSE! it definently wont give you a headache like that god awful tune from splatterhouse. also, its funny to hear the quarterback say HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT over and over again. like theres a snap count THAT long. Graphics: what can i say? its NES. the graphics arent good...at all. when theres too much going on the screen, youre players start to blink in and out of the screen. i wont rip it apart too much considering thats the best technology they had at the time. Replay-ability: i could play this game for days and days and never get tired of it. its really fun to play your friends too, its more intense then madden 08 for sure. because no matter what, youre gonna have a chance to win. Overall Thoughts and Rating: This is definently a classic sports game for the NES. Doesnt even matter if you like football or not, its a good game to trash talk in and re-live your youth shredding some football on the NES. ![]() (trashed in that picture) RATING: 7.5/10
