After a heated conversation on xbox live this afternoon, and me resorting to cussing in my voice message -- I was told to be careful. Be careful? For what?

The person stated that it was illegal/arrestable offence in the state of Virginia for cussing over telecommunication lines. Now anybody who has ever been to the state of Virginia, would understand that if this was true 70% of Virginia would have been arrested for it at some point in time. So I laughed it off, and went along with my buisness.

I later decided to google it....

§ 18.2-427. Use of profane, threatening or indecent language over public airways.

If any person shall use obscene, vulgar, profane, lewd, lascivious, or indecent language, or make any suggestion or proposal of an obscene nature, or threaten any illegal or immoral act with the intent to coerce, intimidate, or harass any person, over any telephone or citizens band radio, in this Commonwealth, he shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Seriously?!

Now, I know XboxLive is considered more of an internet source so it probably wouldn't fall under this. But there is a possible chance in the state of Virginia, you could get in trouble for cussing over XboxLive.

This is possibly the coolest/dumbest thing I've ever heard. But I think I just want to be able to say, "I got a misdemeanor for cussing on xbl."

Hehe i live in the state of virginia and have never heard of this. When im on xbox live the only time i swear is when im grouped up with friends and talk some smack.


Who told you to be carfull btw? a friend, not like someone over live is going to track you down. The only thing swearing should affect is your rep untell you have enough offences to be temp or perma banned.

some advice would to be to take off your location on your gamertag.

there are lots of crazy laws out there. i think in one of the states it is illegal to shoot a whale from you car. i think that there is a site some where that has a list of all the crazy laws

On an island somewhere it's illegal to use handheld electronic devices, ever!!! Also, I forgot where but it's illegal to catch a fish with a lasso. One more: In onother country like england or sumthin it's illegal to pretend one's parents are rich!
