XBL Users to Get Free, Exclusive Music : Next Generation - Interactive Entertainment Today, Video Game and Industry News
Microsoft is set to use Xbox Live as one of a number of channels for delivering free, exclusive music to users as part of its new Ignition program.
The initiative will be used to garner exposure for artists and musicians who will receive month long promotions via Microsoft’s Xbox Live, MSN and Zune platforms, providing access to 30 million regular users.
UK band Maximo Park is the first act to participate in the Ignition program. Their debut single will be available free of charge from the Zune Marketplace. The music video will also be available for free via Xbox Live Marketplace while MSN users will be able to stream the video.
"We don't want the same thing that is going out on MTV," Microsoft’s director of music marketing Christina Calio said when speaking about the importance of exclusive content.
