Chrono Trigger is one of my all time favourite games and I would say it's the greatest of the Golden Age RPG's followed closely by Final Fantasy III (VI) and Super Mario RPG.

When I heard that CT was coming to DS, esspecially after just buying FFIV DS which was revamped in 3D and with Square Enix already working on a 3D revamp of FFVI I was all "SWEET MERCIFUL CHEESECAKE! Have they finally come to reason and finished that 3D Chrono Trigger they confiscated from those enthusiastic fans a few years back!?"... but apparently not. But still, I'd love to be able to play it anywhere I go and experience any new little trinkets they provide, (hopefully they keep the Anime Cut-Scenes from the Chronicles Edition and maybe even add some more, or at least add an extensive archive of artwork.)

I saw mentioned in an earlier post that Eriktheguy recommended the PS Chronicles Edition over this new one, truth be told, the original is the way to go but since they're hard to find I'll explain why a DS version would be far superior to the PS version: One of the wonders of SNES Chrono Trigger was the smooth and quick paced action of getting into and performing in fights, you're walking along, happy as Larry, than you get too close to an enemy and a fight begins ,right there on the spot, it was amazing. The PS verion had lovely cinematics and extras but many of the sound effects were changed to simpler ones or removed all together and the once fluid battle system would take roughly 5 seconds for even a common fight to begin; the motions of the enemies became laggy and glitchy and the music and sound effects were grainy and broken, not unlike trying to listen to a radio station that's just out of range. The ultimate spell for Crono, the Luminaire, took twice as long to use because it kept skipping through the animation. Double and Triple Techs would take forever and the battles became a chore rather than a thrilling pleasure.

The reason for that was because the
original Cartridge could load the data much faster and accurately than a disc which is fine for a game designed to compensate for that lag but Chrono Trigger is most definitely not one of those game; fluid action all the time. But with the new DS version being a cartridge as well, logic would dictate that the fatal flaws of the sub-par Chronicles Edition would be set right, even the cinematics would be improved if included. Sure, smaller screen, but screen size hasn't taken away from all your other DS favourites and fan wise and even experience wise, if the load times and sound effects are back to normal than the heart and wonder that is the true feel and spirit of classic Chrono Trigger will return in all their glory and it'll be a dream come true for any RPG, Anime and/or Epic Story fan new and old alike.

YAY CHRONO TRIGGER! WE LOVE YOU!
