well, in melee there was also the Z button. But I agree that this could work well on a Ds version.

R button shields, L grabs. Simple solution.

This game shan't be happening, though, I think.

It'd be hard to control with no analog and the combos would take effort but the online on the DS is far better than that on the Wii.

They should just make the classic N64 version for the DS, and sell it via online store. This will help them get known better as an online community.

No, you miss the point.

Sell it in stores, but make the online multiplayer so ridiculously awesome that even a Nintendo skeptic has to go "WOAH! Holy SH*T that was amazing!!"

Then, and only then, will I recognize Nintendo's true online power.

Like has been said before, it would be really hard to control, or have limited moves. SSB needs to stick to consoles and not portable consoles.

I think it would sell, but that it wouldn't be that good and people might get bored because they probably wouldn't be able to add as near as much stuff to do.

As Sakurai said, there really wouldn't be any trouble making a Smash Bros game for the DS control-wise, but it isn't something he is interested in doing. That's a 'no' ladies and gentlemen .
Sakurai has "no plans" to port Smash Bros. to the DS - DS Fanboy
