I don't think it would be hard to port from a graphics or power standpoint but more about data storage and the controls. If I recall from reading before the DS was released Nintendo said that it would use 1GB cards for it's games. SSB is pretty big I don't know if they could fit it. And I think that you're basically looking at wiimote (sideways style) control for the game.

if ssbb where on ds it will sell unseen amounts way more than the version on wii...if it where on xbox it will also sell unseen amounts..think of the graphics..

it wuld b reallly hard to play it on the ds unless they slowed down the action a notch. too small to really play like if u had a whole controler.

I guess porting the N64 version (or even a graphically downgraded version of the GC version) is a possibility on the DS. Someone (Sakurai, or maybe some reviewer) once said that going back from SSBM to SSB, or from SSBB to SSBM is impossible, since the gameplay is so fundamentally different. If they made a DS Smash Bros I would want to see it more along the lines of the most recent one for controls.

1 - No. they're all Nintendo Characters (Snake and Sonic originally where)

On the Wi-Fi part, I think they should add the microphone funtionality. But knowing Nintendo, they probably wont unless if you have a friend code or something.

the controls won't have a problem. i mean since they have the touch screen they can use it like they do in most fightin games on the ds u just have set moves on the bottom sreen and touch it when u want 2 use it

im sry but i think ssb needs to stay to the major nonhand held consoles, other wise it wouldnt make sense :/
