When Will A New DS Be Announced?

When will a new DS be announced? I know no one knows the answer but whats a good estimation. I'm not quite sure how long a handheld life cycle is. I think I would just buy that as a next gen console because I most likely won't get a real console. The DS was announced about 4 years ago so I would think one might be announced soon.

It supposed to be every 18 months, but because of the huge ds lite sales a new handheld was never announced. I would expect it to be out around mid 2009.

Do you mean announced mid 09 or released 09?


Edit* I mean a complete new handheld not just an upgrade like the DS lite was to the Original DS. More of a DS 2

I hope for a new handheld.
I would think mid 2009. By then I would think the DS would be old enough to go, although I would like to see what controls it uses.

There's a rumor saying that a new handheld will be announced in Japan by this holiday season.

I am not exactly for sure but i do say that ds still has some hidden potentail left in it.
I mean that nintendo will give out a major new update for ds lite user and maybe ds user via wii. I think so because mainly everyone who has a ds owns a wii and i am pretty sure that ds has enough memory onboard to make a new update availbe for it to do something awesome.
The memory although i dont know how much exists on you ds but it isnt for games except demos and wii/ds connectivity hasnt been all too exciting so i think that nintendo will launch some major new updates for it. (Maybe thats why Nintendo has seemed to take a break from quality ds games?)
This is just my theory. I will make a thread for my ideas for a new handheld later but as for a new annoucment on it i would say after the holidays or TGS to help lighten the moods of a game drought or just some awesome info.

you can expect a new handheld when the ds stops sellings as rapidly. i would say u cna expecct info in summer of 09 and a date of 2010 ro 2011

You'll probably have to wait a while, due to the sales of the DS. Its a great system, you should look into getting one.

It may be a while, Nintendo put a lot of time and effort into making the current DS as good as it is, and it has totally payed off, they have made millions thanks too it.

Look at the PS3, people still have a PS2 but they never seem to have a PS3, Nintendo do not want that too happen to their hand held.
They are going to take their time, and will probably end up bringing a new wii to the market before the new DS.
