Friend codes

Sorry for being ignorant here, but I only got my Wii last week and knew nothing about them up until that point.

My question is, when I enter a friend code, does the 'friend' get an alert asking if he wants to accept, or do I have to manually find another means to contact him and get him to add my friend code as well?

If it's the latter then that's more trouble than it's worth surely and it should be rectified?

there is no warning, but once u put say my fc in and i put ure fc in that means we can interact and share miis and messages.

you basicly go to the address book(in the message board (which is on the lower right of the wii menu)) and put your friend's wii's number, when you go there you'll also find you wii number

NOTE: you might need to add the internet connection settings first, they're located in "settings"in the lower left of the wii menu
