I'm curious to know if anyone else is talented in the visual arts. I finally got around to taking some garbage-quality pictures of stuff I've done/am working on. Feel free to post your own art. ![]() For starters, we have this: Woman on the Beach ![]() I have no clue who this woman is, or what she's doing on a beach, but this was my first hand-drawn portrait. This one took me roughly a month to finish. The Face ![]() ![]() This is one of my first sculptures for a sculpture club I'm in at school. It's made from old recycled clay from broken pots, so there are a lot of "particles" as we sculptors call it. "Particles" include anything from hairballs to dirt to just about whatever can fall into a 5 gallon bucket full of wet clay. To do this one (and keep it from exploding in a kiln), I first started by wadding up a fist-sized ball of paper towels. Next, I wrapped this in a thin layer of wet clay, filling in the gaps with spare clay. After that, I added another layer and made it roughly 1/2 inch thick all the way around. From there, I added the base details--eyes, cheekbones, and the beginnings of a chin--until the shell began to dry and I could work on the minute details. The picture above shows the face before it has been fired. My Better Half ![]() This is a new work I've just started in the past month or two. The girl just so happens to be my wonderful girlfriend of 3 years, so I decided to surprise her with a big portrait for Christmas. The way this is drawn is to put a grid underneath a blank sheet of paper. The purpose of this is to improve quality by drawing in the details of each individual box before moving, thus eliminating possibilities for errors. Then, as the outline goes in, using a softer lead pencil, strokes are made in the direction of shadows, and are blended with the fingers until smooth. The whole process, I expect, shall take another month to finish (I'm on a pretty strict deadline with this one). -------------------------------------------------------------- So, there we have it. This is what I do for fun (besides games). Feel free to post your own artwork. Last edited by cornyjohn; 11-18-2008 at 05:20 PM. |
