[OG] Wiispace 10 Year Reunion

Hey everyone,

I check on this website maybe once or twice a year to see if anything new is happening. And after numerous check ins, nothing is happening... as usual... hahahah.

But for some weird reason, I keep this up and continue to check back as if there is some small chance this place will be revived. But I have to admit, long gone are the days of the active Wiispace forums. Long gone are the days where I would constantly refresh the page to see new contributions and discussions. And beyond everything else, long gone are the days of when I was obsessively passionate about video games.

I find it funny that there was so much drama in the fall of Wiispace. Between moderators, owners, and active members, there were a million different reasons trying to explain the decrease in community participation. But looking back on the issue, I think everyone was wrong. Quite simply, the internet was changing.

The idea of social media is much more apparent and recognized than what it was 5 years ago. Between Facebook, Youtube, and Reddit, the idea of independently run forums dedicated to specific topics seems funny. It sounds like an unorganized mess. Nowadays we have catch-all platforms that cater to those interests (reddit, facebook, twitter, twitch, etc.). Wiispace (along with many other forums) have lost their place only to be replaced. And quite honestly, it was only a matter of time.

Anyways, it's now 2016. And with Wiispace originally being founded in mid 2006, I thought it would be fun to post a 10 year reunion thread to see what everyone is up to. So feel free to post what you were doing in your life when you were an new/active Wiispace member, and contrast that to what you're doing now.

Also, this is the first time I was able to figure out my Wiispace account info in years so I wanted to post something! So I'll start.

- I joined Wiispace in late summer of 2006 after hyping the newly announced Wii. I believe I would have been in middle school at the time living with the parents in Michigan. I would stay up into the early hours of morning and wake up in the afternoon before browsing forums and riding bikes outside. I didn't have a care in the world. It was great.

- Fast forward through the fun years of high school and college in Michigan, I now find myself starting a new chapter of my life. I've just recently started a job in St. Paul Minnesota, a city and state where I know very few people. It's intimidating, but also refreshing. I rarely find myself playing video games nowadays, but I seem to be too busy trying to be productive (or so I think) and impress people. How things change.

So again, greetings, and I hope everyone is doing well.

I joined wiispace during late October. I had my wii for a while but was craving new challenges, so joined to add more friends. I was a mum of two and they were only 8 and 5 years. They loved to play but when they were asleep I was in control.

Now my children don't even want to know me let alone play a game. I've been far too busy being ill to play either. But we're about to move and my wii will have pride of place next to my xbox once again. And people will tremble when they see me play.

Mwahahahaha

On the off chance anyone remembers me, I guess I'll throw in my own 2 cents.
Not much to say though: I graduated college and started looking for a job...and I'm still looking for a job.
I joined back in 2008 primarily to find people to smash with but also for pokemon battles and such. These days I've come to the conclusion that I'm a bit of a smash scrub (I still think I'm pretty ok at pokemon though). My gaming interests these days primarily revolve around jrpgs. Has anyone played the devil survivor games? I think that they're pretty great.
I still keep in touch with one of my friends from my days on this forum, but I've lost touch with everyone else. I wonder if I'll see anyone I recognize in this thread.
