Looks like a seriously awesome game. I hear it only lasts 4-6 hours long. But theres lots of maps to.

I want to gets some maps for it, but will I need Half-Life installed for it? Im not getting Orange Box, just the standalone. I looked at the Portal Flash mappack, but it says you need HL2 aswell. Does this apply for all extra maps?

And lastly, is the cake really a lie?

Hello, I am GLADOS and I have taken over blan's computer while he is...."Occupied". The cake is not a lie and you should come to Aparture science labs to be a test subject. Of course, we will have to "Bake" the cake before we eat it >:]

hey guys, weird, GLADOS made it so I can't delete her post, :/. Owell, anyways idk about the HL2 cause mine was on ps3 and now my ps3 is gone

You do not need Half Life installed for portal as far as I know, but I have heard that it was recently released as a stand alone game outside of the Orange Box.

Exactly, 19.99 good deal (did you mean Portal or Halif-Life 2). But can I download stuff with it? I'd like some extra maps, or better, mappacks. Is there like a HL2 source code?

Ummm....You should just get Orange Box. I mean, you may think that 19.99 for Portal is a sweet deal, but the Other two games out of Orange Box are pretty sweet too, and it doesn't really cost all that much more.

I am 85% positive that you just need Steam installed for you to get Portal stuff to work, and new portal maps. And while originally Steam really really sucked, it is quite a bit better now. As far as Fan Made Map Packs... I'm sure there are some around, I have not been looking. All Map packs/Mods for HL2 that I found though, come coupled with instructions on where to extract files to, and how to set it up if it does not come with its own standalone installer. So just poke around on some Portal or HL2 forums to find those.

I'm curious as to where it stated that you need HL2 to get new maps...I had not seen that before, hence my slight hesitation that you do not require it. (A post to a real HL2/portal forum would not go amiss)

i didnt know it was released individually. awesome. i was totally thinking about getting in this weekend. then when I get that, im getting Gmod. Im awesome at gmod.

Way to gory and bloody (HL2 and TF2), mom would get pissed.

Type in this address and look at the first comment. He said something about a HL2 Source code or somthing? Explain? Maybe this will let me get Flash Version Mappack (if I get portal anyway)

I was poking around the Orange Box community, and any Valve game, Standalone or packaged, comes with Steam. Steam needs to be run at least once to play. So thats not a problem. Then I can probablyget some kind of HL2 source code for it, and then download some maps!

And your right Orange Box pkg is the best deal but the Half Life games and Team Fortress are to gory. I can play M rated games, but it should have a limited amount of blood language and violence. Drawing the line is right around Halo 3 and Crysis.

By the way what is Garry's Mod excatly? Seen videos on Youtube.
