September 30, 2008 - Publisher Electronic Arts has cancelled Tiberium, its Command & Conquer first-person shooter. The cancellation was made because EA thought it would "not be able to deliver this product to an appropriate level of quality," wrote Electronic Arts Executive Producer Mike Verdu in a memo sent to Kotaku.
"The game had fundamental design challenges from the start. We fought to correct the issues, but we were not successful; the game just isn't coming together well enough to meet our own quality expectations as well as those of our consumers," wrote Verdu.
As a result of Tiberium's cancellation, the game's team members are being released. EA is currently trying to reallocate individuals to other sectors within the company.
"This is the right move for the studio and the company, but it's particularly hard for me because of the impact it will have on our people. Many individuals contributed their time and talents to this game. I spent time in the trenches with them and I was continually impressed by their work," wrote Verdu.
Prior to the cancellation announcement, Tiberium encountered a heavy delay from its original 2008 release to a then to-be-announced 2010 fiscal year release.
