Introduction to the Total War games
I am going to explain the basics as best i cant...

The campaign map
Ok first off I will briefly tell you all about the campaign map. Here is where all the work is done. This is where you recruit armies, move them into battle, siege settlements but also sword free but equally important tasks such as economy/ finance, building larger cities and fortifications and also diplomacy.

So for this introduction I started a new campaign hence why I own so little .


Here you see the beginning of a new English campaign.
This is the campaign map. It is where you do all the work that I said above.

As you can clearly see this is Brittan and if you look at the mini-map you can see the size of the map (translation: what you can kill and take over! ).

Now once you have done all your moving of armies and building buildings you press the next turn button and then all the AI factions complete there turns (building buildings and attacking you or others) and then it becomes your turn again.

Settlements
These are your life force. They are both civilian and military and without them you cannot generate money or troops so you don’t want to lose any to your enemies and you want to take ones away from your enemies.

Now there are two types of settlements:

Castles- These are military fortifications that have many walls and defences and are used to recruit specialized units and your nation’s most powerful ones.
The downside to castles is that taxation cannot be controlled (will talk about that later) and the population is much smaller then cities so you cannot recruit as many units from castles as you can from cities and also cannot generate as much income as the workforce is smaller.


As you can see this is Nottingham that I have selected. And if you look to the bottom there is a garrison of 3 units (1 archer and 2 spearmen) and I have recruited 3 more units on the right there (1 infantry squad and two Calvary squads) which would be finished recruited next turn and will show up next too the other 3 units at the bottom (I will talk about recruitment later).

Cities- These are your large, citizen filled, money making centres of your empire. They are big and full of people so they have far less defences with only one outer wall. As I said before because of the bigger population sizes more money can be made but they can also recruit large numbers of units that are not as elite as your fortress troops. Now the downsides to cities are they are harder to defend and controlling the population is harder (once again I will explain later).

doesnt really look like a game i would play though, i like more of an action computer game, is there battles in this game. maybe something like age of empires?

yes only with hundreads of units...just wait i will show u next update. You dont get more action then these games trust me.

Alright here we go. I am a TW fanat. I own all of em.

Here is my campaign setup as of now.

Playing as Scotland (like the underdog)

I command all of England, France, Spain, Africa, and the Middle East.

5 Factions remain.

Scotland
Mongols
Milians
Denmark
Holy Roman Empire

My biggest threat right now is my 100 year war with the Roman Empire. The Mongols are lost in Russia and aren't moving in. The Milians are trapped in Italy. And Denmark is cowering in fear in Denmark.

I have the Knight Hospitlar and Knights Templar Grandmasters Quarters in my base at Scotland. The Pope is under my protection in Ireland (Milians tried to kill him. I offered him lands in Ireland).


Largest fight I have been in entailed 20,000 men. Yes 20k. Had about 7 armies of my own against 10 roman armies. About a 4 hour Fight there.

Luckly I have a fast enough computer that i didn't get unit lag.

wow nice! how did you get ME without east europe? went through africa and egypt?

and how did u have that meany men in one fight....was 6 of your armies being controlled by AI? or did you just fight with one at a time replacing troops? the biggest i have had is 1 AI controlled army vs 3 masive mongolian armies...

And yes the Units were under AI control.

But I play hard campaign and hard battle so they knew their stuff.
