Education

I have a serious problem with education that I've just realized recently. I posted a question concerning it in a recent blog.

It sounds like a good idea to send your kids to a public school, but I respectfully disagree.

Today's teaching institutions equate memorization to learning. What are we memorizing? We happen to be memorizing other people's opinions on topics. Memorizing facts never helped anyone. Since when did the facts ever help Einstein and Planck shape their revolutionary theories of quantum mechanics? When do set guidelines ever help authors develop intuitive and interesting stories?

They never did. Both cases required that the person take a leap and actually CHALLENGE what had been learned.

I can guarantee you that if you encourage a student to look at a certain subject and tell him or her to make an explanation of what appears to be going on, they would develop a far better understanding of it than reading a textbook definition of that topic.

And this whole issue arises over low test scores. I suppose the theory behind that is, "Well, the scores are low, so let's cram more definitions in and attempt to get the scores back up." When that doesn't work, they just lower the prerequisites for passing altogether.

This isn't so much an issue in history, reading, and English or other languages. I also understand this may/may not happen in homeschooling, private schooling, or elsewhere, but in public schools, I demand a change.

But the chances are, people coming out of the schools aren't going to be the next Einstein, and will probably need these facts in whatever job they go on to do.

Unless they actually become a scientist. Then its all useless.

Either way, students aren't encouraged to think on their own.

I know what you're talking about. My science teacher always says: Don't think, just do. He tells every student that we are not allowed to think in his class. That's why he is always yelling at me. I do something and he claims that I had to do some thinking to do that, and so I was wrong in his mind. It really annoys me.

If you teach right, few may succeed. Teach wrong, and no one succeeds at all.

You tell me which is better.

Hahaha.

In my school, 50% teachers are old, 35% new and young, and 15% Obese.

Due to sun, the obese teachers...just scream all the time, since they can't take the heat...Which just makes us bored and we ignore her.

The toung one's keep class active and have new ideas.

The old one's 50% know and bore you, and the other 50% just bore you...and know nothing. That's why they've kicked out about 5 teachers last year.

What's the big deal about uniforms...It does make us different...Each school has a different uniform...We are all different.

And uniforms, with being different, doesn't make sense...The uniform is just to keep schools more recognizable and students to standout if they skip school, to another school.

Sorry CJ, but the whole uniform not equaling different, is a lame question to ask yourself...In my opinion...

Not school uniforms.

Uniform standards. For instance: one person believes that it is okay to teach people evolution in school. Another believes it isn't. The more prominent person wins, and evolution is not taught in school. Therefore, the student doesn't learn the other theories behind how we got here.

Uniform standards are just a way of controlling what we think, not dress.

I was being way sarcastic.

I do support some of the intrinsic principles of it, but I am by no means agreeing that it is better than our current system.

Lol. No wonder...I was like: I can't believe CJ asked such a simple question.

Glad to see I was wrong.

Your question, is too confusing to explain typing. We'd have to discuss what you mean, if I were to try to prove a point. Sorry I can't copious about it.

Lol. I can't believe I was so dumbfounded about :Uniform Standards.
