South Dakota Lawmakers Propose Individual Mandate To Require Gun Ownership

State lawmakers in South Dakota have introduced legislation that would require all residents aged 21 and over to purchase a firearm beginning in 2012.
The bill is reportedly meant as a quixotic attempt to protest the reach of the health insurance mandate set to be implemented by President Obama's health care reform, ruled unconstitutional by a Florida judge on Monday.
State Rep. Hal Wick (R), one of the bill's sponsors, recently explained the objective of the legislative demonstration taken on by him and four other lawmakers.
"Do I or the other cosponsors believe that the State of South Dakota can require citizens to buy firearms? Of course not. But at the same time, we do not believe the federal government can order every citizen to buy health insurance," Wick told the Sioux Falls Argus Leader.
Despite the purely idealistic nature of the proposal, it seems perhaps particularly strange in the state of South Dakota, where legal immigrants have been barred from accessing concealed weapons permits since 2002, when the legislature changed the law following the attacks on 9/11. A measure is now in the works to return those firearms rights to legal immigrants

All these crybabys that scream "you cant make me by insurance" are the same one's that would cry "please dont let me die" when they show up at the E.R. gut shot......simple, you dont want insurance, sign a waver that we dont have to treat you at the E. R. (where all the rest of us that DO have insurance then have to pay for YOU not having it).......if you dont want health insurance then bring CASH or S.T.F.O. of all hospital's and doctors office's and urgant cares.....damn lines are too long anyway.....

Most people that are against the government insurance are the people who already have insurance but don't want to go to a government insurance and don't want to have to pay for someone else's health insurance, except for the ER. Doctors have had to treat a patient in the ER before having the person pay for it for a while now.

Also, if anyone did that, they would still have to pay for health insurance for everyone who didn't sign the waiver.

Well, i wasn't really serious about the waiver because it isn't really feasible, more to prove a point.....what i do know is people now without insurance simply go to the ER for EVERYTHING as they know (some dont even speak english so not sure how they know) that they HAVE to be treated and DONT have to pay, so they use the ER's for health care clogging up the place..........i think the government should take over the pharmaceutical industry instead, they are the one's whose greed is REALLY making the cost unaffordable.....just google some of the OUTRAGEOUS pay and "golden parachutes" these guys are getting at everyone else's expense.....

i dont like obamacare for one reason, the fines.... cause there are people out thre who cant afford any healthcare and then they get slapped with a fine for not having it, its unconstitutional and pretty lame.

the reason im quoting you is because that is very true. and im corresponding to another reason why ppl dont like it.

That would be lame, if it were true.....it isnt........

Well, it may be kinda true, if you dont get it you can be fined i think, but there is no "not being able to afford it" cause they will basicly give it to you the way i understand it.....if you cant afford it i mean......

Politicians are all so stupid. Government-run healthcare is not the answer.
