Uwe Boll Acquires Movie Rights To LittleBigPlanet - To Be Released Late 2009

In what comes across as a stretch even for the film industry, the soon-to-be-released PS3 title LittleBigPlanet is currently being developed into a full-length movie by infamous director, Uwe Boll. It seems that the petition to make him retire (titled, “Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, stop making movies!”) was unsuccessful, as the German filmmaker, known for his painful celluloid recreations of popular game franchises like Alone in the Dark (2005) and House of the Dead (2003), will be at the helm of LittleBigPlanet: The Movie, slated to hit theaters in time for the busy 2009 holiday season.

The script, penned by Masaji Takei and Michael Roesch (the pair behind Boll’s upcoming Far Cry adaptation), is still in development, so we at The Minus World were unable to secure a copy. We did, however, manage to get our hands on a single picture taken on the set which gives us a vague idea of what’s planned for this fledgling franchise. It looks like Boll doesn’t just prefer his actors to be cardboard. We can assume that the simple set designs, created to mimic the game’s homey style, will at least keep the budget down.

Boll has high hopes that this adaptation will deliver the two things that have constantly eluded him: Critical praise and commercial success. When contacted, he had this to say: “I am winner. LittleBigPlanet will make critics of Mr. Uwe Boll bow down and kiss ass.” He was uncharacteristically evasive, however, when questioned about a recent rumor making its round in the Hollywood rag Variety about his purported acquisition of the film rights to the hit life-sim game, Animal Crossing. “I say nothing about it,” Boll stated, “The Animal Crossing movie is a blank spot for Mr. Uwe Boll now, and I’d like a clean slate.” Intriguing, to say the least.

We’ll have more on LittleBigPlanet: The Movie soon. Until then, enjoy the leaked photos and cross your fingers that Uwe Boll doesn’t screw this up like everything else he does.
