PSP2 - Pros & Cons (Updated as Information Becomes Available)

Alright, now that I have looked at the new PSP in depth, I am going to list some pros and cons that I have found. I will post some pictures at the end of my article to show some of my points. NOTE: I will update this article as information is released about the new console)

Pros: The thinner and lighter PSP will make the Playstation Portable a bit more portable, which will make fans of portable systems (Including me) happier with the new design. I also am liking the PSP - TV connectivity. This will be great for users who have a large selection of UMD movies or TV shows stored on memory stick duos. The new battery pack arrangement sounds like it will work well. To my understanding, the system will be shipped with a smaller and lighter battery pack that will not suffer any loss in battery life. The system will also be compatible with the old psp battery packs, the downside to this is that it will interfere with the 33% lighter system. The new UMD door doesn't look like anything special, but if it has the same functionality as the current door, I will consider this a pro. I also am considering the two new speakers on the face of the system a pro. The last of the pros I have found are the 3 packs that will be released: Daxter, Star Wars (Which will include a picture of Darth Vader on the bottom left side of the back of the system), Core, and Value (To my knowledge), and the better selection of system colors: Piano Black, Ice Silver, and Ceramic White (Currently being expected to be released after the Star Wars Pack). That will do it with the pros.

Cons: The main thing that I am disliking about this new PSP is how some items on the device have moved there way around the system. For example, the WiFi switch has moved its way from the bottom of the left side of the system to to left of the top of the system. I am not quite sure why they needed to make this change, but it seems like it will not work very well since it will be very easy to accidentally knock the switch. Another change that has been made is the location of the headphone jack. This part moved from the far left of the bottom of the system and slid further into the middle of the bottom of the system. This seems like it will be very awkward to work with. Another con I found (Well its not really a con, more of a disappointment) is that there has been no confirmation of 8gb of built in memory in the system. I want that memory VERY badly. I have been trying to fit as much possible media as possible on my 4gb stick for months, and I'm getting to the point where I cant compress anymore files without suffering quality. The 8gb of memory would solve all my problems, or at least for a while. The last con that I have found, that doesn't seem to have been recognized at all, is the increased smudgability (New word) of the new system. I thought it was hard to keep my psp smudge free before, now my problems have been doubled. Sony has decided to make the back side of the system out of the same material as the front. So now I can smudge the back and the front at the same time! Great. I may be a anti-smudger (New word), but I just hope that sony will fix this. Well, that is about all the cons, I will post some pics that support my points.

New found Con: Memory Stick Duo has been moved to the other side of the system resulting in a very cramped right side making it more difficult to swap memory cards.

PSP Slim Information:

Current known Colors: 3: Piano Black (Core = 169$), Ice Silver (Included in "Daxter Pack" = 199$, "Entertainment Pack" which includes UMD Family Guy Movie and a 1GB memory stick = 200$, "Core Pack" = 169), and Ceramic White (Unknown, but most likely Core pack will be 169$ and Starwars pack 199$ like the Daxter Pack). Also, it has been mentioned that colors Pearl Blue, Purple, and Pink will become availabe sometime in 2008.
Current Known Packs: 4: Daxter Pack, StarWars Pack, Core Pack, and Value Pack (To my knowledge). Also, the TV-Out cable & the USB cable are not included in any pack.
Current Known Changes from Old PSP: 2 Additional Speakers, PSP-TV Connectivity in HD, Headphone jack moved, WiFi Switch moved, Memory Stick Duo Port moved, 33% lighter, 19% thinner, New UMD Door, Smaller battery pack (Battery life remains the same. The PSP2 is also compatible with the old battery packs), Faster Load Times, Recharges over USB data connection, IR port has been removed, an additional 32mb of RAM has been added, PSP Slim will not be compatible with the old remote control and will not be packed with the new one, the "Display" button will still switch between the 3 levels of screen brightness and holding it for more than 1 second will turn backlight off just like before. But with the PSP Slim, holding the "Display" button for more than 5 seconds will switch to video output mode.
Release Date: Mentioned to be sometime in September.
Changes That Have Not Been Confirmed: Built in camera, 8gb built in memory.

to me the best part is it has more ram to load games quicker and the tv thing cuz i want to play god of war psp on my tv. im gonna get me that daxter pack i want silvet it looks nice

I think Im gonna get the Piano Black, or maybe Ice Silver........I dont know. Definately not white though. I hate how the back of the system is now smudgable too.

You should rent it. Its one of my favorites on the PSP.

By the way, I know you know whats going on with the PSP2 quite a bit......do you know of anything I dont have included on my first post?

thats all the info i saw too i just cant wait to get a new one i had mine ever since it came out its all scuffed . im gonna get a screen protector next time

Double the battery life due to the PSP2 being more "fuel efficient"

Sony removed the "Infra-Red" port since it was never used in the frist one...

64 MB of Ram instead of the original 32 MB

Additional colors pearl blue, purple and pink will be available mid 2008

the Offiical name is the "PSP Slim"

You can Now charge the unit through PS3 or PC Via USB Cable during data transfers

and the TV out is in HD which is MAJOR...Metal Gear Solid Ops on my 70" in HD is WHOA....

I forgot about the removal of the IR port and the additional 32mb of RAM, Ill add that.

I already had the ability to charge the system via usb connection.

I havent heard that the official name is PSP slim though. And I haven't heard of those 3 additional colors either. Is that confirmed?
