i use to have that problem with mine. had to push the cartridge down real hard and fast for it to stay. then that stopped working and i had to get a new one. you can get a system on ebay for 9.99 and with 20 dollars shipping that is like the newer version of the nes where the game goes in the top of the system.

Its sounds like your loading port is going bad. After years of play the spring loaded bay of the NES starts to wear down (actually what is wearing down is the tiny slit that helps it stay down, its like a little hook almost that holds it in place until you push down on it to release the game).
This happened on one of my old NES systems. If you do not want to have to take it apart the best thing that you can do is jam the game down. When you push the game down you can take something to put on top of the game so that it does not spring back up. The best thing that I have found is actually a piece of paper that you fold over a few times (it will have to be thick enough to rest aginst the top of the game and the top inside of the system). Then to remove the game you simply remove that object that is holding it down. This of course is not going to fix the problem but it does make the system playable aging.
