REVIVE!
Ranking FFs Before anyone asks. The only FF I havn't played is FFXI (the online one) The only FFs I have not beaten are FF-III (have the DS version...working on it), FFV, FFVIII, FFX/2, and FFXII (Just got it) NAME Rank out of 12 FF-I 4th ---Simplistic, yet can be played in so many ways. (4 wht mgs ftw!) FF-II 5th --- I liked how you "leveled". Broke the system early, spent an hour giving everyone absurd amounts of hp. Made the game fun :-D FF-III 9th ---Really...jobs, can't get into it. FF-IV 3rd ---Character Deaths! Horray! FF-V 12th -- I really couldn't get into it...just...didn't work for me FF-VI 1st --- Every character had a story, a good story. best villain FF-VII 2nd --- It may not have the best story, but it did revitalize a series and bring it to a new audience. FF-VIII 10th --- I got to space..then I got bored and played cards. FF-IX 8th --- My biggest complaint is that it is too long and I kept getting bored. I finally finished it, but it was not a very satisfying accomplishment. FF-X 7th -- Am I the only one who liked Blitzball? I never lose :-D. FF-X/2 11th -- If I could just watch the story cut scenes, it'd make a great tribute. I think Yuna's growth as a character here is pretty good, but the tedious world touring really turned me off of finishing it FF-XI --N/A Its online...I don't play it...I can't rank it. FF-XII -- 6th. its making its case to move up in rankings as I play it.

I just started playing these games. I played and finished FFVII right after it came out, but then I graduated highschool, and video games took a back seat to the rest of my life.
Just last week my brother let me borrow 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12, and I just picked up 4 for the DS. So far I am on disk 2 of 7, I plan on playing them all in the order i have them, except for 4. I am saving that for when i visit the wifes family during Christmas ![]()

Don't blithely skip them, give them a couple hours play time to decide if you like the play system enough to continue the story. I know a few people who think FFVIII is much better then FFVII and I know others who think FFIX is...playable. My opinions are a bit negative on the systems but I'll describe them here.
One of the major drawbacks (to me) of VIII is the Draw system. Quite a few people enjoyed the flexibility it provided, but I felt the required farming of spells far more tedious then enjoyable (hence me getting bored 2/3rds of the way through). It really is up to the individual as to whether the willy enjoy it or not. FFIX has you gain abilities from the equipment you have on which encourages you to fight more to gain the abilities permanently, making the characters pretty customizable within their own class, but still...within their own class. What made FFVI and FFVII so great was that anyone equiped with the right Esper/Materia could be a secondary healer/mage/fighter, you kinda lose that in this one. Meh. Don't listen to me. Decide for yourself. If you really have that much time to burn, go through them in order. If not, then I'd say do VII, X, and XII before returning to the other two.
