You can blame Sakurai for that one. He doesn't want to risk hurting peoples feelings and wants their online expeirence to be a “plesant” one.

Come to think of it, this could present some interesting advantages. If it gives each nametag (for players, not online profiles assigned to the console) a separate online ranking, people could even go into modes in online Basic Brawl where they request to get put into a room specifically with other players their own rank. This can end some of the frustration cause by fighting pro's in basic brawl if you're a newbie, and getting teamed with a newbie if you're a pro at team brawl.

Yeah but sakurai doesn't like that idea with the basic brawls, which is why this forum thing is necessary. Of course we have the same problem here on forums cause one has absolutely no idea who the noobies are and who the pros are. But of course the rankings allows one to know that and I guess people can be paired up accordingly. Rankings give alot of information out, and especially since there are alot of people on wiispace, and not enough room for everyone with a certain limit on how many friends one can have, it will allow people to figure out who they would like to play against, since they happen to have a similar record to them. This would allow for people to get better and have people they can compete with at least in this case, until they get better and move up. Or something like that.

Wouldn't it be a happy day if Nintendo decided to buy Wiispace from Tyler, appointed him head moderator, and then all would be as it was except that our opinions would actually start to matter to them?

Yeah, sakurai doesn't generally take into account the opinion of the major gamers. I think he's doing what he can to capture the biggest audience he can, rather than those of us who are true and competitive gamers. That issue of hurting people psychologically is in my opinion completely pathetic. We always strive to get better, and Its hard to understand who will get damaged mentally by having competition who can possibly defeat you. Having competition is really what makes games fun most of the time, if things are to easy... than the game simply gets boring. (99% of the time)

I can undoubtedly see I stand alone on this poll. But from what it is that I have heard, Nintendo did not want to implement a ranking system on purpose. Their reasoning was because they feared that people would hunt each other down with constant challenges/threats.

I think a ranking system would be awesome because you would be able to see your skill level against other players. You could also get better by play against the best.
