Super Scope 6
A game that utilized the super scope...
![]() Super Scope 6 is a collection of minigames made for the SNES. The thing about this game is that there's no controller interaction. So, they give you this massive device shaped like a bazooka, with a scope and a fire button on the top of it. While it is a little bulky and uncomfortable at first, the Super Scope is surprisingly light and you should get used to it within half an hour. SS6 is divided into 2 main sections: LazerBlazer and Blastris. Blastris contains 3 mini-games: a game of Tetris where instead of moving the pieces, you shoot the bricks you don't want and keep the other bricks, a game where you try to get three boxes of the same color in a row, and a really nifty game called Mole Patrol. Mole Patrol is undeniably the most fun game on the cartridge. It's pretty much a game of whack-a-mole: only when the moles come up, you blast them off the screen. Describing it on paper doesn't do this game justice: it is unbelievably fun to play. The other section, LazerBlazer, contains 3 games where you fly as a futuristic jet's gunner. In part 1, Intercept, you try to take down (hence, intercept) a stream of enemy missiles that fly toward your base. In part 2, Engage, you try to blow up enemy fighters and missile that are flying after you. In the 3rd part, Confront, a bunch of enemy saucers try to zoom at you, and you have to take them out before they destroy your ship. It's all pretty good here: the graphics are solid, the gameplay is all there, and it is a challenge once you reach some of the later levels. Overall, the graphics are on par with most SNES games of the time, although Part 2 of LazerBlazer is slightly better looking than the other few, just because you're flying over a simple 3D planet. The sound tracks fit their respective games, but unfortunately it's not one of SS6's strong points. The gameplay is extremely fun, as for most of the games you don't necessarily know what's coming up ahead. And apart from the included cartridge, the Super Scope is compatible with 10 other SNES games, including Yoshi's Safari, X-Clash, and Lamborghini American Challenge (don't ask me why). The only real problem about the game is the manual calibration. It's quite a pain to get an accurate calibration, but once you get it right, it will shoot dead center every time. Here's something some people may not have noticed before..... ![]() ![]() It's almost identical to the real deal.
