The problem is with Nintendo
The reason FF left Nintendo was Nintendo's insistance on sticking with cartridges back when Sony was leading the was with the PS1. Now that Nintendo has fully (well almost fully) jumped on board with the disc format it's too late. Sony now has a good history with SquareEnix and the rest of the main FF titles for the forseeable future will remain on the Playstation. There will be lots of spin off titles but no main titles on the Nintendo. This also means that Nintendo is tied up with boat-loads of legal issues with releasing the older FF games on the Nintendo. The re-releases on the DS didn't fly that well. Hopefully they'll work through whatever issues may remain. But at the very least it will be quite some time before a main FF title appears on a Nintendo system. However I've heard that the new Crystal Chronicles game for the DS is very good, all though I have yet to play it.

If you need another FF 7, look no further, I have your solution.
Step 1: Get FF 6 on an emulator Step 2: Hack the ROM and change all the characters' sprites so that they look more depressed and angsty Step 3: Go from a cool rebellion movement to a college-like pro-environment movement Step 4: Add a black guy to make the game more racially sensitive, then make him speak like he's illiterate and carry around a machine gun (I'm just kidding, I played and loved FF VII, I just think it was a bit over-rated) On a serious note you could try FF X which is more popular in Japan than FF VII. (Famitsu readers actually ranked it above FF VII). Famitsu: Famitsu Readers Vote For Their Top 100 Games... The dragon quest series is also much loved, and if you are looking for a top notch RPG experience to sate your hunger until the next FF VII, this could be it. They rarely release Dragon Quest games in NA though. I think you can get I, II, III on handhelds and I know IV, V, VI are coming to the DS. There's also emulators. If you doubt the Dragon Quest series keep in mind that it is more popular than Final Fantasy is in Japan. In fact, Square is onl allowed to release the games on Sundays and Holidays there because people will skip work and school otherwise to play it. |
