Disappointing VC releases
Well, here we are in April and it has been a really long time that anything worth getting has shown up on the VC. My last purchase was back in October of 2007 for the Halloween releases of Magician Lord and Castlevania II. Every thing that has come out since has been less than steller. Now, please be advised I am only speaking for myself and the 2100 points I have left. Nintendo has a huge library of potential releases not only from there own systems but from Sega, NEO-GEO, Turbo Graphx, etc. Checking the soon to be released list on wikipedia doesn't show any really decent titles either. I am just wondering has Nintendo sort of given up on the VC? It is not promoted as heavily as I remember it being. Games now come out in groups of 2 or just one. Where are the gems like the Mega Man series, Castlevania III, Mario RPG, etc? One does get tired of the shooters, sports games, etc. Does anyone else feel the way I do? I see hundreds of lists of wanted games but changing the subject slightly, how does Nintendo determine which game to release? I would love to know the criteria and how long it takes a game to be reviewed, programmed and posted. I certainly don't expect them to release all the huge games at once, that would defeat the purpose of VC. Please respond as I would like to see how others weigh in.

I quite enjoyed Simon's Quest when it first came out all those years ago and when it was re-released. The Video Nerd is certainly entitled to his opinion other people's rhubarb and all that. Simon's Quest was an interesting but failed experiment in trying something new with the Castlevania series. It didn't click and Konami went back to basics with Castlevania III. Of course, by the time Symphony of the Night rolled around, Konami had the whole "Metroidvania" idea revamped and we saw how well that was done. Hey, I like the game. In the end that is all that matters.

It would be cool if they let the fans decide on which game to add next to the vc. Personally I would like them to put Raiden 1-3 and ThunderForce3. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark maybe remake with better graphics. I have about 2400 wii points last download was in november the games they are releasing now aren't worth my time really.

A Little Disappointing at Times
Quote:
Looking on the list of what came out, significant games that came out during that time in the US: Super Mario Bros 3 (Nov. 5) Axelay (Nov. 12) Pokemon Snap (Dec. 10) Baseball Stars 2 (Dec. 10) Donkey Kong Country 3 (Dec. 24) Bubble Bobble (Dec. 31) StarTropics (Jan. 7) Super Street Fighter II (Jan. 21) Columns III (Feb. 4) Harvest Moon (Feb. 11) Fantasy Star II (Feb. 18) Ninja Gaiden III (Feb. 18) Kirby 64 (Feb 25) Yoshi's Cookie (April 7) I haven't bought all these games on VC (In fact, I've bought three of them for myself and gifted another one.), but they've been significant mainstream titles. Granted, the recent choice of dropping down to three games every two weeks has gotten a bit depressing. Dropping from three VC games to two VC games was bad enough, but NOA has managed to slow game releases to an even more sluggish snail's pace than before. |
