Classic controller

Hey i just bought a classic controller today and was wondering what the heck are those two slots on the underside for?

you press the top button thing and the slots open as if it clips onto something...

is there something i have missed or has nothing been said yet?
oh yeh BTW i did some research and found nothng

I think you were supposed to attach the wii remote to that so its all one unit, but then they decided against it and never took it out of the classic design.
