Epic Games won’t ever make a game for the Wii: “we go forward, not back"

Epic Games’ president, Mike Capps, reiterated what Epic has previously said in an interview with IGN, stating that Epic won’t ever be developing games for the Wii. It’s not about the success of the platform to him, but what can be done on it. When asked whether there would ever be a time when Epic would be forced to give in and create a game for the Wii, Capps said, “no, we go forward, not back. It makes more sense for us to invest in the next-generation tech.”

As for why he believes the Wii has become so popular, he says it’s like a virus that just keeps spreading:

It’s a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they’re like, “Oh my God that’s so cool, I’m gonna go buy it.” So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they’ve showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. Obviously there’s a class of people who really love it and enjoy it and are getting into the games but I’m still waiting for that one game that makes me play it.

Some in our forums have shared a similar sentiment regarding games for the Wii (at least this year), but others are very excited about the upcoming games for the system. It seems that in many cases it may just be personal taste.

There were times where i put my wiimote down for days sometimes weeks, but i still use it often, Virus... I guess its true :P

I haven't used my Wii in about a month...well I sold the USA Wii I only have the Japan one because I got Mario Kart Wii for it...but i'm gonna get rid of that one soon...

I can see where he's coming from. My lil one plays it alot. I played Brawl and stopped playing for awhile. It comes and goes. Waiting for the next "good" game.

I still play brawl and mario galaxy, we are talkin bout gettin a 360 for assassins creed and rock band and GTA4 etc. But I think wii will still be my fave! Its rocking and people are now understanding the potential, like the star wars force unleashed game, its gonna be rockin with wii controls. Also, there is the new Smackdown vs RAW 09 is gonna be better for wii cause now it is believed in.

wow, he is saddly mistaken. of course, ull get bored with some games eventually. EVERYONE gets bored with stuff eventually. but daying that the wii is a virus because it comes and goes it completely wrong. I play brawl almost every day, and i have since ive gotten it. same goes for past wii games that ive owned. this guy couldnt be farther form the truth.

Wow ... these are the words from the epic president? This is not a good PR and he gives no argument at all. The only thing he does is reducing the Term "NextGen-Console" to the graphic-processor. Next Gerneration for me is more about innovation in interface, gameplay story and style ...

So GW is a really cool game but not innovative; the same with UT. Both games don't redefine a genre.

And complaining about shaking the remote for the mario-attack is the most ridiculous statement I heard since the wii is released ... he seems to hate the wii

I occasionally plug my Wii in...might a little more if MK entices me, since my room mate will want it plugged in...but honestly, mostly it just sits in my closet.

My dad has a Wii that he bought after I got mine...he never plays it anymore, he plays the PS2 a ton though. Perhaps Epic Games does have the right though.
