Next Generation - Interactive Entertainment Today, Video Game and Industry News - Sony Says Wii is Just “Impulse Purchase”

Sony Computer Entertainment of America spokesperson Dave Karraker says Wii should not be directly compared to PS3. Interviewed by The New York Times today he said, “Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else.”
Karraker added that Sony is selling out of the 100,000 PS3 units it is shipping into the US every wek. But, he added, “The frenzy we saw at the holidays has subsided a bit.”

Sony believes Wii is currently selling to casual gamers rather than committed gamers, who are likely to buy more games in the years ahead.

Meanwhile, Nintendo says its shipments of Wii into the US are equal to Sony’s and has described reports that Wii shortages are down to lower shipments as “absolutely inaccurate”.

WTF Sony, Get over yourself. Face it, you've got competition this time around. I'm sure that everyone that has a Wii is content with just Wii Sports and will just throw their Wii away when their tired of Wii sports.....NOT! Fricken Rediculas.

Yeah that was good...just like 18 months ago when Sony president Phil Harrison said the DS was an "impulse Buy" and that after the initital release people won't want it anymore and dismiss it as a gimmick... really SONY that's why the PSP isn't even in the same universe as DS as far as sales is concerned...

i think i've figured out why sony fanboys act like they do. they mimic sony. and everything sony does is holy. so as sony sits around trying to justify their lack of success AND nintendo's massive success, sony fanboys follow suit. as much as i love their products, i have no respect for any of the executives at sony. they've lost sight of what business is, and that's sales based on competition. it's time for sony to get over itself...

The DS beat the PSP.
The Wii is selling well.

The Ps2 may have outdone the other two leading consoles, but the Xbox came out significantly later.
I believe this generation belongs to the Wii.

I could rant on at Sony but I feel Maddox can sum the point up better.

Heh very typical. I was playing CS:S earlier today and I found a server full of Sony fanboys there. One asked who owned a wii. I replied then he went on a rant saying Wii sucks and is no competition to the PS3 and he also asked WTH IS A WII 360 ANYWAY ITS LIKE A PS3 BUT COSTS MORE MONEY!!!!! Direct Quote from him.

Hmm lets ponder that claim. Wii is popular with common gamers and HARDCORE Gamers as well. So wth sony. Afraid that nintendo is winning. I think so.

Wii is just boring now and I know alot of people agree with me too...This will probably be the last nintendo system I will buy because nintendo is so late to keep up with anything...Its so freakin boring and takes so long for games to come out,let alone games that I actually like...Nintendo doesnt even have online like PS3 or 360 and is not going to have online until the middle of 07 probably and thats rediculous...Thats why im getting a 360 because I cant stand waiting so long just for online....And who knows,Wii might not even have a headset either.
