Virtual Console to be region specific...

I was really hoping this wouldn't happen but I guess it is...I know the article is from Eurogamer and it's about the UK Wii..but you'd have to be stupid to think it's not true for North America as well...I mean why would we be able to DL euro games if they can't DL ours...

News - Wii upholds Cube region lock // Wii /// Eurogamer

Wii upholds Cube region lock(News)by Tom Bramwell
03/10/06 07:09

Nintendo UK has confirmed to Eurogamer that the Wii's region locking will extend to GameCube games.

A company spokesperson also said that Virtual Console game releases would not be universal - in other words, European gamers will get European versions of the games.

The news paints a slightly clearer picture of the circumstances surrounding Wii's backwards compatibility in the run-up to the console's 8th December launch.

The console is known to be compatible with all GameCube software, and peripherals including controllers and memory cards, while Virtual Console will deliver titles from systems including NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, Megadrive and TurboGrafx at the rate of around 10 per month.

In answering our queries, culled from some of your recent forum threads, Nintendo also said that it expects to release RGB and component video cables that fit current pricing models.

It declined to comment on recent reports, supposedly surfacing in Nintendo Power, that Virtual Console will also host Commodore 64 games in future.

It's bad for the people who do need to order from other countries that have games that they want, for example japan comes out with a fire emblem, and you really love fire emblem, and yet they dont make one for america what do you do? Also it almost makes it seem like Europe (at least in this case) is trying to make war with the rest of the world rather than uniting everything and making it region free, I mean what better way to promote peace than being able to get anything from anywhere rather than being a selfcentered market for only the people living in your area (offtopic maybe?), so in otherwords not allowing games to be played on wii's from different countries may cause controversy. Also what would happen if someone from america by mistake bought a european version of the wii yet they didnt know, and always it says failed to encode disk on the screen or something like that..

also, PAL countries get such high game prices, iam paying $50 USD more for my wii as it is + games will be about $75 USD or more. So i could just get all my games here which would be cheaper and use em on my aussie wii, but nooooooo they had to lock it.

I agree we should be able to get a game from any country and play it on our wii it would help sell more game you know japan is going to get games that the united states will not. how unfair is this
