Nintendo: Wii To Bypass Lifetime GameCube Sales Any Minute Now

Nintendo's financial results for the previous quarter, released earlier today, were nothing less than impressive. What's even potentially more impressive was how quickly it appears the Wii will overtake lifetime-to-date sales of its predecessor, the Nintendo GameCube. According to Nintendo's own numbers, the GameCube had sold 21.72 million units over the course of its six year-plus lifespan, as of December 31, 2007. The Wii, just 14 months on the market, has sold 20.13 million, putting the waggle-box a mere 1.59 million units behind the 'Cube.

In Wii terms, that ain't nothin'.

With Nintendo now manufacturing 1.8 million Wiis a month and seemingly selling every one of those consoles, it won't be long until the Wii overtakes the GameCube... if it hasn't already.

I had heard that it already had taken over the life-time sales total of GameCube and that the next mile marker was the SNES.

Gamecube was a flop, but it had a couple of gems

So far, every Nintendo console has sold less than the one before it :

NES = 60 million
SNES = 40 million? or something around there
N64 = 33 million
GC = 21 million

The Wii will 90% sure break this trend. It might even pass the N64 in terms of sales.

I'm sure that the wii will surpass N64 there selling so good now and I bet it will take a a long time for the wii to start to massively decline in sales.

I think wii might outsell all of them.
Just think you can replay your favorite classics on it, and play new ones with friends across teh globe.
It is kinda sad that Gamecube did so poorly, I thought it was a good console.

dang that didn't take long. i'm amazed at how well wiis are selling. i never predicted that they would sell this good.
